Kinesio Taping
Elastic therapeutic tape that supports and stabilises muscles and joints without restricting how you move, often applied at the end of a session to help you keep training, working or competing through recovery.
What is kinesio taping?
Kinesio tape is an elastic, breathable therapeutic tape applied directly over the skin to support a muscle or joint while still allowing a full range of motion, unlike a rigid strap or bandage, which restricts movement to protect the area.
It's stretchy in one direction, applied with varying amounts of tension depending on what it's supporting, and stays in place for several days at a time.
How does kinesio taping actually help?
It gives light, ongoing support to a strained or overworked muscle or joint without limiting how you move, which is useful when you need to keep training, working or competing through recovery.
The gentle lift it creates on the skin can also help with managing swelling and bruising, and it gives some people useful feedback on a movement or posture pattern we're working on together.
When would I get taped during an appointment?
Taping is usually applied at the end of your appointment, once we've assessed what your muscles and joints actually need support for. It's one part of your treatment plan rather than a stand-alone service.
It's often used alongside hands-on osteopathic treatment, and can complement other treatment like shockwave therapy for stubborn tendon issues.
How long does the tape last and how do I care for it?
It's flexible and water-resistant enough to wear through training, work, showering and sport, typically for three to five days before it starts to lift on its own.
When it's time to remove it, peel slowly in the direction of hair growth rather than pulling it straight off. We'll talk you through this before you leave, and let us know if you notice any skin irritation.
