How is a sports or overuse injury treated?

We start with a proper assessment to understand what's actually injured and what might have contributed to it: training load, technique, a previous injury that never fully settled, or simple bad luck.

Treatment is hands-on: soft tissue work, joint mobilisation and stretching to reduce pain and restore movement, alongside home exercises so progress continues between visits.

For stubborn tendon pain that hasn't responded to rest (think plantar fasciitis, Achilles or shoulder tendinopathy, or tennis elbow), we also offer shockwave therapy alongside manual treatment.

How can osteopathy help prevent injuries before they happen?

A lot of injuries don't come out of nowhere. They build up from a small niggle, a movement pattern under load, or training that's increased faster than the body can adapt. Picking these up early is a big part of prevention.

That means honest conversations about training volume and recovery, not just treatment once something's already gone wrong.

What does injury prevention advice actually look like?

Practical, specific guidance rather than generic tips: things like adjusting how you're loading a niggly tendon, pacing a return to running after time off, or fixing a lifting habit that keeps aggravating your back.

Osteopathy is one part of staying injury-free. Training structure, recovery, sleep and nutrition all matter too, so we're upfront when something is outside what hands-on treatment alone can fix.

How does ACC cover injury treatment?

ACC (the Accident Compensation Corporation) covers treatment costs for injuries caused by an accident or a specific incident (a fall, a sporting mishap, a strain from a single awkward lift), regardless of fault. We're a registered ACC provider, so we lodge the claim for you at your first visit, no referral needed.

ACC cover usually means a reduced, subsidised fee rather than a completely free visit. We'll confirm the exact cost with you before you're treated.

Not every injury qualifies. Pain that's built up gradually over time, without a specific incident behind it, is generally treated as a private visit rather than an ACC claim. If you're not sure which applies to you, tell us what happened at booking and we'll help you figure out where you stand.
