Why do joints get stiffer as we age?

Natural changes in cartilage, reduced muscle mass, and less regular movement can all contribute to stiffness and discomfort over time. It's a gradual process, and it affects everyone differently depending on activity levels, past injuries and general health.

Can osteopathy help with arthritis-related pain?

We can't reverse arthritis, but gentle hands-on treatment can help manage the associated stiffness and discomfort, and keep the surrounding joints and muscles moving as well as possible.

The goal is comfort and function, not a cure. We'll always be upfront with you about what treatment can and can't do.

Can osteopathy improve balance and help prevent falls?

Addressing joint stiffness and muscle weakness that affect how you move can support overall balance and stability, alongside simple, practical exercise advice.

If falls or balance are a significant concern, we'd also recommend a full falls-risk assessment with your GP. We see our role as one part of staying steady on your feet, not a replacement for that broader check.

Is osteopathy safe for older adults?

Yes. Treatment is gentle and adapted to what's comfortable for you, taking into account any other health conditions or medications. Always let us know your full health history at your first visit.
